Normally when I collect an army I select miniatures purely on whether I like them or not. However for this army I felt the need to at least attempt to create a viable tournament army list.
Once of the benefits / curses of the internet is that you can normally find someone else’s work and ‘borrow’ it. I’ve spent a lot of time recently checking the forums of Bolter and Chainsword, Dakka Dakka and WarSeer to see how people generally more practiced with army lists created theirs.
In the end I found this:
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224126
It’s a 2000 point list with a good set of troops and doesn’t follow the ‘spam’ list trend that a lot of power lists seem to follow.
So I’m collecting something along these lines. I may drop the land speeders + 1 set of long fangs for another Land Raider but I want to see how it plays first.
Normally I collect / construct and paint the elite and HQ choices first. I swore I wouldn’t do this for this army…. fat chance:

Wolf Guard Squad Leader with Frostblade

Grey Hunters 1

Grey Hunter 2

Grey Hunter 3

Grey Hunter 4
I’ve actually painted seven mini’s but some of the photos need to be redone before I can publish them.
In addition to the Grey Hunters I’ve been working on some tanks. Those who know me are usually unfortunately well aware of my obsession with tanks… plus I like poisoning myself with the fumes associated with airbrushing matt varnish….
I’ve completed one Grey Hunter Rhino:

Rhino 1

Rhino 2

Rhino 3
I’ve also made a start on the second rhino and a pre-heresy Land Raider I had lying about:

Welcome Brothers to the end of days…..
Welcome to the Wolftime.
++++
I have a family connection you might say to the Sons of Russ and with the release of the new codex I thought I’d document the raising of my new Space Wolf army. I’m not a power gamer, infact I hardly play more than one or two games a year (when I drag myself down the local gaming club) however this isn’t really why I collect miniatures.
I collect, paint and then watch gather dust, miniatures mainly because I enjoy painting. You’ll soon notice that I’m not going to win any prizes for painting however
I guess I’m probably the average collector.
Over the next few months I hope to show the army taking shape.
For now I’ve started with few miniatures. On my other blog you can see my now retired Space Wolf force, painted almost 5 years ago. Hopefully you’ll notice a slight improvement in painting now….
Anyway, onto the army.
I’m not very good at planning ahead, I normally pick miniatures that I like (or that I can paint easily). With that in mind, on Saturday I popped into my local GW store and picked up a Space Wolf Pack. For once I am fighting the urge to buy an entire army at once.
